■Morning Market Area in front of JR Hakodate Sta.
Hakodate morning market is quite close from JR Hakodate station on foot, and you can enjoy the various kinds of fresh seafood, vegetables, fruits and sweets.This is a must for Hakodate sightseeing.
■Daimon Area in front of JR Hakodate Sta.
In this area, you can find many budget hotels for sightseeing or business trips.You can also enjoy the local food stalls (Daimon Yokocho), restaurants and bars.
■Motomachi Area
The exotic atmosphere of the town with many churches, western style buildings and slopes is quite attractive. This is the most recommended area for strolling.
■Hakodate Bay Area
There are many brick-stacked buildings such as “Red brick warehouses” and “Old Hakodate Post Office” where you can enjoy shopping, lunch or dinner.
■Jujigai Area
About 150 years ago,this area was flourished because it was an important point for traffic after the opening of Hakodate Port. Since you can find many famous restaurants in this area, it is described as a “gourmet zone”.
■Yachigashira Area
You can spend the relaxing day near“Yachigashira hot spring” which is one of the most famous hot spring in Hakodate. You can also enjoy the view from Cape Tachimachi and Hakodate Park in this area.
■Goryokaku Area
Goryokaku is the special historic site fort and there is Hakodate Magistrate's Office which was restored in 2010 in the center of Goryokaku Park. From the Goryokaku Tower, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Hakodate city and the star shape of this fort.
■Yunokawa Area
It takes only 30 minutes from the center of Hakodate city to Yunokawa Hot Spring Area. Please enjoy kaiseki cuisine and luxurious outdoor baths with a view of Mt. Hakodate at long-established inns. This area is the perfect place to relax after your long journey.

Hakodate city is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Japan.
Some people say the night view from Mt. Hakodate is the most beautiful in the world, and historical western-influenced buildings create an exotic atmosphere in Motomachi area where you can enjoy the sceneries in the end of Edo period and Meiji era (in the latter half of the 19th century).
In addition, you will find and feel the grandeur of Hokkaido in Goryokaku Park where was the last battlefield of Japanese civil war between the Tokugawa Shogunate and the new government force, and is now famous for cherry blossom viewing in spring.
In Hakodate, you can enjoy “strolling” anywhere in the city, so please enjoy Hakodate in your own way.
In 1988, the 53.85-km Seikan tunnel was completed 240m below the seabed of Tsugaru Strait connecting Aomori Prefecture on the northern end of Honshu and Hakodate City in Hokkaido. Hokkaido Shinkansen opened in March 2016 will connect Tokyo and Hakodate in only about 4 hours, and connect Aomori and Hakodate in about 1 hour.
